IHC seeks Zardari’s reply in his disqualification case

Co chairman Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Asif Ali Zardari
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday sought reply from co chairman Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Asif Ali Zardari, in a case related to his disqualification for concealing his assets details.

The plea filed by Prime Minister’s Special Assistant Usman Dar was taken by Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court, Justice Athar Minallah.

The applicant should have contact the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and added that Parliament is the proper forum for such kind of pleas, the court remarked.

CJ IHC Justice Athar Minhallah deferred the hearing into the matter after issuing notice to Zardari for his reply within two weeks.

The Islamabad High Court on Jan 20, had removed objections raised by the registrar office on disqualification writs field by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), seeking disqualification of former president Asif Ali Zardari for concealing details of his assets

Dar while expressing gratitude to the high court on the acceptance of his disqualification petition against Asif Ali Zardari, had said said “The former president will be disqualified under Article 62 (1)(F)”.

The petition filed by PTI lawmaker Usman Dar had pleaded the court to disqualify the Pakistan People’s Party co-chairman as a National Assembly member for not being “Sadiq and Amin” under Article 62 (1)(f) of the Constitution.

It accused Zardari of owning an apartment in Belaire Condominiums located at 524 East 72nd Street in New York which he failed to disclose in his nomination papers for the 2018 general elections.
